Wiz 6 Update

Well, the project is definitely still on. But it's taking a little longer than I thought it would.

For one thing the manuscript is a bigger mess than I remembered. The first 20,000 words or so are pretty much in rough draft form, basically clean and narratively connected, but the rest is pretty bad. I'm not really writing any more but I am trying to clean things up.

This is taking time. More than I imagined. (You know how it is: The First 90 percent of a project takes 90 percent of the time and the last 10 percent takes the other 90 percent of the time.) However I'm pushing forward with it as I can and I will have it up -- as they say in fandom -- Real Soon Now.

I want to thank all of you who have taken the time to comment on this idea. Your enthusiasm has kept me going through a couple of rough patches. And I want to assure you that it will be rewarded.

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry you're now putting in work without the expectation of being paid for it. Ouch.

On the other hand, perhaps the exercise will be good for you. Who knows, you might even finish the book properly someday.

The "Wiz" books were unique, and very interesting to read. I am looking forward to the last one. Granted that you have no expectation of being paid, and will be releasing this for free (which I very much appreciate) ... but perhaps you can set something up to take voluntary donations so we can show you how much we appreciate your effort?

I really apreciate it as well. Truth be told, I only came to know the series by chance, overhearing a friend's comment... then read them all during the last week and a half. It was quite some time since I laughed so much on a book.

Wish you good health and an even better mood for arranging your notes than I had reading the previous books. :) (What can I say, Englsih is not my native, sorry.)

Just checking back in on this project, as Glen Cook's presence on the Worldcon author guest list reminds me of you, and of it.

If you think that outside assistance on this project would be useful, I could likely find some time to donate. While my professional words resume isn't all that long it does include a tech review/edit pass on a recent Apress book about MythTV.

And, of course, the obligatory 2 dozen years writing for the Internet...

Either way, by all means, keep slogging, and we look forward to whatever it turns out to be.

Sorry you have to put it up without any pay either - heck, do you take paypal? I'll chip in 5. Offtopic: I'm reading The Wizardry Quested right now. For some reason, the first couple years after I got out of college I didn't read much. I'd read all your stuff (and Glen Cook's, and Paul Cook's.... I'm sensing a pattern here, come to think of it), but somehow managed to miss this one.

Just as good as I remember the others being. I always loved that here was a fantasy novel that was fun, exciting, and yes a bit geeky. From a long time fan, thanks for the many happy days reading your books - and I'm looking forward to seeing what you had planned for Wiz.

It occurs to me that there's increasing interest in fantasy films these days, with the success of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, and even the Narnia books being dug up now.

Your Wizardry books seem to me quite promising candidates for filming, given the capabilities of modern technology. The main problem is that I don't suppose you've sold as many books as Rowling, Tolkien, or even Lewis. Nevertheless, the books are sound, and have good possibilities if any film-maker notices them.

I hope you're doing well, I just found out about your health trouble.

I was only today describing your theory of magic on another blog and started wondering if you'd written more in that series.

I have fought some severe health problems myself, that left me weak and depressed.

If you're interested, I used Nootropics like Aniracetam, Piracetam, Sulbutiamine, flax seed oil, B12, Adrena-G, etc, to claw my way back.

There's a key out there to fit any lock. We just have to find it.
